GENERAL MANAGER POSITION for a Unique Non-Profit!

An exciting opportunity to lead a non-profit organization to its next level of professional development. If you are looking to make a difference in a community with a group of volunteers, staff, and board who are well-positioned in the heart of scenic and historic Downtown Port Townsend (Olympic Peninsula) to grow and prosper, you may want to look at this position! This organization just came off a year of raising over $25,000 from an auction fundraiser that was matched by additional funds to attain a total of $65,000! It also raised its support from the city from $5,000 to $24,000, and has just been selected to partner with Americorps.

The Boiler Room, a long-standing and unique youth-centered and youth-operated 501(c)3 non-profit seeks a full-time manager to oversee operations that include an alternative coffeehouse business and free programs including musical concerts, art and writing workshops, soup kitchens, and social services.

The position involves leading a team of 4-5 persons, including two Americorps staff members, and managing a budget approaching $100k. We seek applicants with corresponding training and experience. In addition, you will have the opportunity to interface and direct the efforts of over 130 volunteers who contributed more than 7,000 hours in the coffee house plus another 1,500 hours in administration and other functions last year alone. Please read on if you are drawn to a mission of supporting youth and serving a community!

This job requires that the manager be able to foster an open and creative work environment while maintaining healthy professional boundaries in a small community setting; and is also able to balance coffeehouse business demands with demands of a non-profit with a social services program.

Additionally, the ideal candidate would have the ability to adapt in a dynamic and changing work environment where she/he is frequently challenged to deal with sensitive interpersonal interactions with staff, volunteers, patrons, parents, board members and other involved community members.

Skills in marketing, sales, business writing, fundraising (including grant writing) and working within a social services or non-profit environment are also desirable.

Compensation: Exempt salaried position.
