03/08/10 Staff/Volunteer Meeting Minutes

03/08/10    Volunteer Meeting Minutes        by Elena Carianna

In attendance: Shawn Kellogg, Stewart Monks, Cara Leckenby, Gwen Kramer, Melissa Riggan, Steve Boruch, Kelly Matlock, Kayla, Summer, Alex Norvell, Alana Lee, Jaden Lorien, Anna Vendola, Ellie Spitzbart, Cory Ench, Elena Carianna, Tiffany Whiteford

5:10    Reading of the Log book by Cara Leckenby
-We should refill our first aid kit! It’s pretty much empty.
-Leaky faucet is leaking, again.
-Dave IS allowed to clean for free coffee, NOT for mochas. Some concerns about cost are brought up. Issue will be revisited with board. Cara will get back to us. For now, just make sure you give him a simple chore that is actually useful—so don’t let him clean the bathroom for coffee if the bathroom is already clean. Other stuff he can do is wash the door windows, pick up cigarette butts, etc.
-Don’t adjust the grind. Ask the interns to do it. Or else Cara will find you while you sleep.

Interns’ Reports
5:25    Elena- will be gone from Friday, 3/12, until Monday, 3/22. // Psyched that there are so many new volunteers of a different age group // Triumphing over Excel and figuring out how to keep track of contact info and hrs worked in a way that will make sense for the next intern // Learning how to use the website calendar which you all should check out // Every shift but one filled // Decided we’re all going to scream, smash things, and eat ice cream on April 10th. (It’s therapeutic and therefore a social service, we swear…)
5:29    Ellie- needs a break from training this week. // Defeating the Purpose is playing Friday 3/12,  Saturday 3/13 there will be a big multi-band show. // Ellie is officially letting go of Boileroke and focusing her energies on … stuff people will show up to.
5:31    Anna- Tobacco Fair on the 27th. // Anti-tobacco logo contest deadline approaching (next Monday). // Pat Perreau is going to lead a discussion about eugenics (the study of trying to breed perfect people) after we watch Young Frankenstein tomorrow, Tuesday 3/9 at 7pm. Pizza! Popcorn! Monsters! Mad scientists! Pizza!
5:34    Jazzie- Sorry we’re running out of tea, this will be remedied soon. // Psyched about our new volunteers! Unfortunately, we gotta hold off on training under 14 year olds on drinks until we check with our insurance folks.

Manager’s Reports
5:37    Cara- last 3 weeks countdown, focus on organization and clarification/stabilization, training Tiffany Whiteford as new interim manager.

Community Issues
5:40    Stewart- Stewart is amazing and is hooking all BR staff up with a training shift with Joe (from Undertown) next Saturday, 3/20, during the opening shift. We strongly recommend everyone go—we know it’s early, but this is an amazing opportunity for our baristas.

Board’s Reports
5:43    Corey- We made fliers for the soup & bowls fundraising event, let’s put them up.
5:47    Steve- How did we decide to pick another interim manager? Well, we wanted to wait until  the end of strategic planning (when we know where we’re trying to go) to hire a permanent manager.

5:56    Life Issues                        6:00     WE LOVE THE BOILER ROOM!

For just a dollar a day you can become a BOILERMAKER. Total contributions of $365 or more in any twelve-month period qualify you for the year in which that level is achieved. We will honor your gift of support in our list of BOILERMAKERS on our website, on our donor wall, in our annual report, and by inviting you to special events.
